About a Rogue (Desperately Seeking Duke #1) by Caroline Linden
Goodreads Summary:
It’s no love match…
Bianca Tate is horrified when her sister Cathy is obliged to accept an offer of marriage from Maximilian St. James, notorious rake. Defiantly she helps Cathy elope with her true love, and takes her sister’s place at the altar.
It’s not even the match that was made…
Perched on the lowest branch of his family tree, Max has relied on charm and cunning to survive. But an unexpected stroke of luck gives him an outside chance at a dukedom—and which Tate sister he weds hardly seems to matter.
But could it be the perfect match?
Married or not, Bianca is determined to protect her family’s prosperous ceramics business, even when Max shows an affinity for it—not to mention a dangerous ability to intrigue and tempt Bianca herself. And when Max realizes how beautiful and intelligent and desirable Bianca is, he’ll have to prove he’s no rogue, but the passionately devoted husband she craves…
My Review:
I always forget how much I love historical romances until I read one again, and this one was no exception! This book has so many of my favorite elements in a book: slow burn, hate to love, and marriage of convenience/arranged marriage.
Max comes to care for Bianca pretty quickly, but she is furious about having to marry him and is convinced she will never love him. He is so patient with her though. Even though he is falling for her and wants her, he waits to make any kind of move until she shows him that she wants him too. He is the perfect gentleman and makes her fall in love with him through his actions. It was the sweetest book, and I adored their romance! I cannot wait to read the second book in the series, especially because the end of this one leaves us with some unanswered questions.
